Validate → Deliver → Record → Retry
Illustrative architecture. Uses no patient or customer data.
The challenge
Change the system.
Respect the work.
Order and fulfillment information needs to travel between the operational platform, customer systems, and shipping partners. Each system has its own timing, account boundaries, and failure modes.
What made it complex
A status update can arrive twice, a partner can be unavailable, and separate pharmacy accounts must stay separate. A successful connection has to account for these situations as well as the normal path.
What Octo worked on
Customer status updates
Built a durable order-status event outbox and signed webhook delivery, with delivery attempts recorded and retry behavior handled explicitly.
Recovery in the operational interface
Added webhook configuration, integration guidance, delivery logs, and manual retry controls so an operator can inspect and act on a failed handoff.
Shipping integrations with clear ownership
Added pharmacy-scoped shipping-platform integrations, account routing, webhook receipt handling, and rate-limit coordination.
Tests at the boundaries
Added coverage around webhook contracts, duplicate processing, account routing, and delivery failures—the behavior that makes integrations difficult to maintain.
The resulting capability
The platform can deliver signed order-status events to customer systems and manage shipping connections by pharmacy. Delivery records and retry controls make the integration behavior inspectable and failures actionable.
An integration is a working relationship between systems. Reliability depends on making ownership, failure, and recovery part of the design.
